The 2017 Gift Guide from the chef behind The American Table I like my glasses to be sturdy, functional and elegant. That's a lot to ask, but the tempered glass tumblers from Duralex check all the boxes. They are the epitome of good design and the French company has been in business since 1945. You can use the [...]

You can't take it with you - McPherson Sentinel

Rather than leaving the decision about what to do with your stuff to your next of kin after your passing, taking time to downsize while you are alive can have several benefits. Apryl Partridge is the co-owner of Caring Transitions of Wichita, which conducts estate sales for households throughout central Kansas. “It has been proven through studies that if your house is cluttered or you’re overwhelmed with stuff in your house, it leads to anxiety and depression,” Partridge said. “If you’re not holding on to things and your house isn’t full of stuff, you’re more likely to be spending time and money where it really matters — with your family and your friends and making those memories that you’re going to hold on.

Old china: It holds memories, but not yours - The Daily Herald

If a woman dies and nobody wants to inherit her china, is it still worth $100 a place setting. Travel to an antique store and the price bumps up to around $200, but that’s much cheaper than the $2,000 a set of china costs when it’s brand new. I’ve been thinking a lot about china recently because my everyday Corelle dishes are chipped. “Perhaps,” I thought to myself, “I could replace them with used china because that would be eco-friendly and elegant. It turns out that most china would make horrible everyday dishes because you can’t put gold or silver trimmed plates in the microwave. Some used sets have bowls, but most don’t. In terms of practicality, fine china is the pits, even if buying a used set is cheaper than purchasing brand new dishes at Target.
