I’ve heard from a few consumers in the past few weeks who mentioned they saw an unbelievably good advertised price for an item in an ad circular or newspaper, but when they went to the store or restaurant to take advantage of it, they were told... Let’s say you see an ad in the newspaper for a microwave oven for $25 at your local discount store. “At that price, I’ll get two,” you exclaim gleefully, and take the ad with you to the store. But when you get there and find the oven on the shelf, the price is $250. By now, you’re getting upset, so you find the manager and present him with the printed ad. He consults with a couple of employees, who run over to the shelf. The manager comes back to you and tells you he won’t sell you the microwave for $25 because the price in the ad was missing a zero.

Both GMG and Traeger brands have Wi-Fi-controlled grills, essentially lid-down barbecues you can programme and adjust via your smartphone. nd we are ready for barbecue adventure, according to a recent report by retailer John Lewis. Their customers are “experimenting with outdoor cooking, going beyond sausages and burgers, and buying smokers and outdoor ovens for slow cooking,” says its buyer Vicky Angell. Not only that, she adds, we are prepared to spend more on barbecues too, trading up for high-end.

What`s going to happen if I do? Will the oven explode? And is there any real difference between regular popcorn and the stuff designed for the microwave?A--Believe it or not, this question has plagued microwave oven manufacturers from Day One. Surveys show, they say, that an inordinate number of customers buy microwave ovens...

''GOOD morning,'' the chef will say to his microwave oven. ''I'm having roast beef tonight. Please have it ready - medium well, of course - by 5:30.'' The oven will then weigh the roast, calculate the proper defrosting and cooking time, and have it ready by 5:30 that evening. This scenario may not be so outlandish. Indeed, many of its elements already exist. Microwave convection ovens - units that can be programmed...
