I'm cold as fuck and the asshole men who work here broke the damn water cooler/keurig machine so I can't even have a hot beverage.

He sipped his coffee before it was cool. But trends pull me in. Who doesn't love the hip Portland coffee culture of thick-framed glasses and skinny jeans. But I am proof that anyone can learn to make a good cup of coffee at home. There are more ways to make coffee than I would have ever thought. To keep things short and sweet (maybe a little bitter) here are four brewing methods I've learned in my time as a hipster apprentice: cold brew, pour over, French press and the ol' single serve (like a Keurig). This is super easy and creates a sweeter, smoother cup of coffee than other brewing methods. Otherwise, iced coffee can be the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. To make: After dinner, mix coarse-ground coffee (finer grinds make for gritty coffee) with room temperature water at a 1-to-4 ratio of beans to water.
As soon as users insert a pod with the flavor of soda they are after, and start the machine, water is drawn into a chiller from the external water tank. If the water isn't cold enough, it will not absorb carbonation as well. As the chiller does its job, a small amount of water is brought to the cartridge chamber, where the flavor pod is located. The drawings in this August, 2014 patent by Keurig's Thomas Novak, Ross Packard, Peter Peterson and Shawn Gulla for a "Method and apparatus for cartridge-based carbonation of beverages" are not the exact schematics for the Keurig Kold machine. One contains beads that are made with a blend of minerals – primarily aluminum silicate – with tiny porous spaces that hold carbon dioxide captive until they're exposed to water.

Keurig introduced its patented K-Cup technology in 1998. The K-Cup, a self-contained brewing system for coffee, tea, hot chocolate and more, produces only one cup at a time, which some people may find wasteful. Keurig K-Cups can't be recycled as a whole unit due to the structure of the cup. While the company has committed to research ways that this can be remedied, alternatives can help you reduce the amount of K-Cup waste that ends up in the landfill.K-Cup StructureK-Cups are made in three...
