Additional rain and unseasonably warm temperatures this week further damaged the snowpack, especially at lower elevations in the central Adirondacks, and at the periphery of the Adirondack Park. Winter conditions remain however, and tomorrow we’ll see below zero windchills and some of the coldest weather we’ve seen this winter. There is about 6 to 12 inches of snow on the ground across the Central Adirondacks at lower elevations (less snow and more bare areas on eastern and southern exposures), and there remains deeper snow at higher elevations and in sheltered valleys,... Snowshoes or skis are required in the High Peaks Wilderness beyond Marcy Dam, and are suggested for those traveling to elevations above about 2,500 feet.
