Families across Central New York are pulling out all the stops to celebrate events that mark their children coming of age. Bar mitzvah parties feature elaborate themes. Here's a look at some of the celebrations. While the traditional synagogue ceremony remains the centerpiece of a Jewish teenager's bar or bat mitzvah (for boys or girls, respectively), more families plan a memorable celebration to accompany the religious tradition. Melissa Romano McAllister, of Fayetteville, organized themed celebrations for her son and daughter. Son Tobey Schulman celebrated his bar mitzvah in October with a baseball-themed dinner at Drumlins Country Club that included some ballpark favorites -- a cookie and ice cream bar, a popcorn machine and pretzel station.
