Those who came out to the open house got a tour, and the chance to make their own candy. And this year, the candy store started a new tradition to help sweeten the lives of local teens. For more than 25 years, Frank Sheftel, his mother Gloria, father Mel, sister Debbie and cousin Jill Glass, have run the Candy Factory at 12508 West Magnolia Blvd. in Valley Village, selling chocolate bars, jelly beans, marshmallows and a large selection of candy making supplies. In 1997, Sheftel stepped into the spotlight after creating “EarVander-Tyson bites” chocolate in tribute of the famous boxing match between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson, who bit off a piece of his rival’s ear. The Sheftels recently received a 30-day eviction notice and now are boxing up their candy supplies. “We have 40 years of business to pack and get out in 30 days,” said Frank Sheftel as he stood on a recent afternoon in the middle of his store next to a pile of empty boxes.
