Animal cruelty, undercover video and our collective avoidance The footage, said to have been recorded between December, 2017 and February, 2018 at Fleming Chicks Ltd. in Beamsville, Ont., shows live chicks – deemed too injured by rough handling processes – being tossed into grinders, beheaded against sharp edges [...]
If you hurt any animal because they weren’t “behaving” then you’re a terrible person and you deserve to have that hand in a meat grinder
Beef should also be labeled as dairy beef when it comes from dairy cattle. The dairy industry has done more to cast a bad light on beef than just about anything I can think of. Every picture on TV of mad cow disease or downer cow being forklifted to its feet has been a Holstein. They spend their lives on concrete and make up 95 percent of the downer cows due to broken hips, bad feet and dairy life in general. The public should know when they are eating meat from worn out old dairy cows that have been racked with mastitis and done countless rounds of antibiotic treatment. The calves then become bucket calves in a three-by-five pen until they are old enough to make it in the big pen.
After that will be the commercial grade glass board, which is a requirement for commercial food-handling buildings. This project is very close to being operational at the current time. As a matter of a fact we already tested out the facility on 2 buffalo and 4-5 deer. The building is very convenient and sure does make the processing a lot easier than the way we were doing it before. The building, to make a long story short, is very nice as a meat processing facility. This facility, when complete and after it gets rolling, should definitely be a big plus to our food program and a big plus to area hunters, live stock operators, ranchers and the OST Parks Buffalo and Elk Division. The things that we came across that we saw that needed to be improved were things that already will be, once we get the project completed.

Sure, you could find vegan cookbooks 10 years ago, but they were neither as plentiful nor as polished as they are today. In 2007, “Veganomicon,” an impressive hardback, with a chatty style and comprehensive contents, changed all that. Co-authors Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero revolutionized the food world’s approach to vegan cuisine. To mark the book’s 10-year anniversary, Da Capo has reissued it with a new (hard) cover, new layout, more photographs and 25 new recipes. It is among...
If you can get past the visuals that a butcher shop named Grass & Bone conjures, you should make a mental note to check out the butcher shop and eatery on East Main Street in Mystic. The folks at Grass & Bone, the same team behind the Oyster Club and the Engine Room, explains its name thus: “Meat that’s good to the bone starts with good grass. Good grass starts with good farmers.”It’s the circle of life, after all, and Grass & Bone keeps that circle fairly small because its...
For people without homes, finding basic necessities like food, water, and toiletries can be a daily struggle.
